Iran: Blood for sale PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 12 May 2007
NCRI - Recently, a new lucrative business has just opened up in Tehran. A peculiar new clinic that offers money to teenagers for donating their blood is making a fortune in the poverty stricken slums of southern capital.

The so called donors who are mainly unemployed teenage addicts receive anywhere from ten to fifteen thousand Tomans, in today’s Tehran currency exchange market equivalent of 20 dollars, for two pints of their blood.

The preconditions for the deal or as the people who run the clinic insist on calling it, donation, for the presumed donors, is not to have drug addiction.

If the seller is clever enough, he would give a negative answer to all the questions asked; such as do you have drug addictions? Do you smoke? Do you have any blood related diseases? Have you recently donated any blood to this center?  Apparently, the purchased blood is sold at a very high price in Tehran’s black-market.

"If you introduce another donor, you would get a bonus of five thousand Tomans on top of your reward and can become a sale’s agent for the clinic soon," said the youngster.
