Iran: thousands of teachers gather outside Majlis, beaten by suppressive forces |

NCRI - Yesterday, thousands of teachers from various cities filled the surrounding streets to the mullahs’ Majlis (parliament) shouting anti-government slogans.
Despite heavy security measures by the State Security Forces (SSF), the protest took place. From 6 a.m. thousands of SSF, security agents, plain-clothes agents, and Bassij Force’s club wielders riding cars or on foot imposed an undeclared state of emergency around Majlis. Dozens of busses and vans were waiting outside the building to take away the detainees.
At 12:30 p.m. the gathering began outside the Majlis. The crowd numbering in thousands filled Mojahedin, Iran, Modaress, and Baharestan Streets. The SSF units brutally cracked down on the demonstrators using tear gas to disperse them. However, the teachers did not pay any attention and resisted arrest. They chanted slogans such as “Imprisoned teachers must be released.”
The suppressive forces treated the women teachers harshly. Many women had fallen on the ground and were beaten by the SSF anti-riot units with nightsticks.
Skirmishes in Istanbul, Poule Chobi, and Baharestan Streets between teachers and SSF continued until 5 p.m.
Many bus drivers from Tehran Bus Company, students, and workers in solidarity with the teachers participated in the demonstration.
The President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi praised the uprising of Iranian teachers and called on all students and young people to support the teachers.
She said that in recent months growing uprisings by teachers, demonstrations by hundreds of thousands of workers, unrest in the southern city of Eqlid, strikes and demonstrations by students and in particular that of Poly Technique (Amir-Kabir) and Shiraz Universities as well as hundreds of other demonstrations in recent weeks has all been indications that the Iranian people want a change.
