Mrs. Rajavi calls for an all out support for Iranian teachers PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 17 April 2007
NCRI - The Iranian Resistance’s President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi calls on all university and high school students as well as faculties in the Ministry of Higher Education to support the striking teachers in Iran.

In particular, she calls on international teacher unions and human rights organizations in various countries to support the Iranian teachers in their plight.

Mrs. Rajavi said that one million Iranian teachers have been suppressed while they are struggling to make ends meat. Teachers’ deteriorating living conditions come at a time when the leaders of the clerical regime are wasting the Iranian people’s national resources on nuclear projects, export of terrorism and fundamentalism abroad as well as on their tremendous propaganda machine. Such huge expenditures are made to step up the suppression of the Iranian people at home.

On March 8, 2007, some 15000 Iranian teachers gathered outside the regime’s Majlis (parliament) to warn the ruling clerics that if their demands are not met, equal pay with the rest of government employees, they may walk out in April.

In fear of large turnout by the teachers, faculties, university and high school students, the desperate mullahs’ regime seeks to increase their suppression.

In past two days, the freedom loving teachers have gone on strike in various Iranian cities including Tehran, Mashhad, Arak, Sari, Islam-Shahr, RobatKarim, Shahr-Ray, and Homayoon Shahr.

At the same time, the State Security Forces (SSF) attempting to break the teachers’ strike attacked their residence and has arrested a large number of striking teachers in Tehran and other cities throughout the country.
