Iran's regime rejects UN resolution 1737 and expands uranium enrichment program |

An indispensable call for imposition of comprehensive sanctions
NCRI - Less than three weeks remaines before the deadline for UN resolution 1737 calling on the Iranian regime to stop uranium enrichment; head of Regime's Atomic Energy Organization, Gholamreza Aqazadeh said, “We have said all along that we will not abide by the resolution [1737].”
On December 22, 2006, a day before the resolution 1737 was passed, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, “possible Security Council sanctions would not stop Iran from pursuing uranium enrichment.” Ever since, he has underscored the same position and said “celebrations [is] near.”
NCRI Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Mr. Mohammad Mohaddessin said in this regard, “Aqazadeh’s remarks yesterday proved once more that the regime has no intention of forsaking its nuclear program. It is still not willing to abide by the international community’s demand and violates the UN resolution 1737 to obtain an atomic bomb as a guarantee for its survival.”
He added, “Delaying adoption of a firm policy vis-à-vis the regime will embolden it in pursuing the nuclear project. Therefore, imposition of comprehensive oil, arms, technological, and diplomatic sanctions against the regime will become a necessity. A firm policy towards its nuclear program will save the Middle East and the world from a major human catastrophe.”
