NCRI - On December 6, state-run television quoted an official of the Revolutionary Guards’ Corps (IRGC) as saying that in Iranian Kurdistan 8,000 members of the corps were busy in “promotion of good and prevention of vice”, the pseudonym for a program to suppress youths.
The regional commander of the paramilitary Bassij and secretary of the Headquarters to Revitalize Promotion of Good and Prevention of Vice in Kurdistan, Brig. Gen. Allah-Nour Nour-Allahi, told state television, “At present, we have 8,000 agents who are busy promoting good and preventing vice. 7,000 of them have received training and 1,000 are agents. "
They will get involved when a crime is happening and will arrest the criminals if the responsible organs are not available at the scenes of the crimes. The most important demand of the people is to fight social disorder. The mission of agents promoting good and preventing vice is to stop alcohol drinking among the youths in the region … and to deal with those not observing the dress code as well as drug addiction.”
The regime’s decision to expand its suppressive apparatus is intended to prevent the spread and intensity of popular uprisings. However, in recent months, demonstrations and uprisings by the people have increased dramatically. In the last month alone, popular uprisings increased 54 percent in comparison to the same period last year. The Revolutionary Guards and the Bassij must know that the Iranian people seek the total eradication of the mullahs’ regime.
