Lawyers for exiled Iranian resistance movement demand group be removed from EU terror list

The Associated Press, Bruxelles, Belgique - Lawyers for an exiled Iranian resistance movement appealed to the European Union on Thursday, demanding the 27-nation bloc remove the Paris-based group from its blacklist of terror organizations.

The People's Mujahadeen of Iran had won a legal battle in the EU's Court of Justice last year when the court annulled a 2002 decision to freeze all European assets of the group, known by the acronyms PMOI and MEK.

It was the first time an appeal to the EU's terror list was successful at the EU court.

Iranian exile group demands removal from EU terror blacklist

Agence France Presse - The main Iranian opposition group in exile on Thursday called on the European Union to take its name off the official terror blacklist, accusing it of "an abuse of power".

The EU had given the group 30 days, till Thursday, to put forward its case for being removed from the list.

The People's Mujahedeen of Iran (PMOI) duly handed over the letter in Brussels in which its lawyers accused the EU of "flagrant disregard" of an earlier European court ruling.

NCRI – “The position adopted by the Council of the European Union on January 30th is absolutely illegitimate and unwarranted, because in its ruling the Court clearly dismissed the terror label against the PMOI. It stressed that no restrictions could be applied against this movement in the framework of combating terrorism.

UK: 2000 jurists and MPs call for the removal of PMOI from the terror list

NCRI - More than 2000 jurists along with the majority of th House of Commons and 200 Peers from Great-Britain call for the removal of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran from the terrorist list.

Call to oppose Iran's nuclear plans

Press Association - Supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) have claimed that the mullahs' nuclear advancement was a direct result of appeasement towards Iran by the West.

They rallied opposite the Foreign Office in London and called on the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany to stand firm against the Iran regime and adopt a more forceful resolution imposing comprehensive sanctions including arms, technological, diplomatic and an oil embargo against them.
