UN “deeply concerned” at Iran’s treatment of women activists

NCRI - According to a statement posted on the website of the United Nations office at Geneva on Tuesday, the UN Human Rights Council's special rapporteur on violence against women, special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the rights to freedom of expression and opinion, and the Special Representative of the Secretary General on the situation of human rights expressed deep concern about the arrest of four women and one man on April 3 in Laleh Park in Tehran, where the five had been collecting signatures for a campaign to change Iranian laws that discriminate against women.

Supporters of Iranian Resistance demonstrate in Sydney, Australia

NCRI - Supporters of the Iranian Resistance in Sydney, Australia held a picket line on Saturday, April 7 to denounce the European Council for ignoring the ruling by the Court of First Instance of the European Communities. The ruling annulled the PMOI terror label designation on December 12 2006.

They've been masterful at playing for time, stringing along the Europeans, the Russians and the United Nations Security Council with negotiations that went nowhere, threats of retaliation about the country's "right" to nuclear energy. The most recent example of Iranian misdirection: the British hostage crisis.

EuroNews - Iran's announcement that it can now produce nuclear fuel on an industrial scale has drawn condemnation from the international community. The UN urged Tehran to abide by Security Council resolutions, while the EU renewed calls for uranium enrichment to be suspended completely.

The Sunday Telegraph – If anything sent "the wrong message to our young people", it was the Iranian video showing the casual, shambolic way in which our boarding party came over the side of a dhow they had been inspecting. Everything about this affair showed a complete collapse of professional discipline, which brought shame on the Navy. But if the result has been to land our Government and the Foreign Office in an unholy mess, it must also be said they have asked for it.

NCRI – For the eighth day, Iranians in London, sympathizers of the Iranian Resistance gathered in front of the UK Foreign Office to condemn the illegal position of the British government in insisting on maintaining the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran on the terror list, while the European Court of Justice ruled on 12 December that it had to be removed from the black list.
